STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil has contracted Aibel for modules and modifications for two new pre-compressors destined for the Troll A platform in the North Sea.
Last week the Troll partners decided to invest $1.93 billion in the new compressors, which should speed up gas output at the field and allow for production with reduced wellhead pressure. They should also extend gas production from Troll until 2063.
Under the $474-million contract Aibel will be the key supplier for engineering, procurement, onshore construction and integrated offshore construction and completion for upgrading of Troll A’s pre-compression capacity.
Offshore installation will take place from 2012 until completion in early 2015.
The two new compressors form the final phase of the planned capacity expansion on Troll A as a gas production center. They also open the way for tie-in of gas from Troll West once oil production there has finished.
After coming on stream in 2015, the new machines should allow Troll A to produce 120 MMcm/d through 2018, and 30 bcm/yr until 2024.
Statoil expects to award a contract for the associated electric drive system for the compressors shortly.
