HAMILTON, Bermuda – North Atlantic Drilling has taken delivery of the new harsh environment jackup West Elara from Jurong Shipyard.
The rig should depart Singapore on Aug. 11 and arrive at Westcon Shipyard in Ølen, Norway, in early October to undertake final contract preparation.
West Elara is due to begin operations for Statoil on a five-year contract in late November.
This is the first of two Gusto MSC CJ70 150A rigs to be constructed for North Atlantic Drilling, a newly formed company in which Seadrill has a 75% interest.
The ultra-large rig is built specifically for Norwegian requirements and is said to match the specifications of the world’s largest jackup.
It can operate in water depths of up to 150 m (492 ft) with a higher variable deck load and a higher operating efficiency compared to previous generation jackups. Its size extends options in terms of logistics, well testing, and early production.
