OSLO, Norway – Statoil Petroleum is preparing to complete two wells in the Norwegian North Sea as oil and gas finds.
Wells 34/10-52 A and B were both drilled by the Deepsea Atlantic in 136 m (446 ft) of water in production license 50, on a fault segment in the southern part of the Gullfaks Sør field.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the aims were to prove petroleum in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks (Brent group), and to clarify communication with already producing areas in the field.
The wells encountered a 120-m (393-ft) column of oil and gas in the upper part of the Brent group, estimated to hold recoverable volumes of 0.5-1.5 MMcmoe (3.1-9.4 MMbbl).
The licensees plan a tie-in to existing infrastructure in the Gullfaks area.
Both wells will be temporarily plugged for later re-use as producers.
After heading to the shore for modification work, the rig will return to continue production drilling on Gullfaks Sør.
