READING, UK – Ophir Energy has scored its third successive gas discovery offshore southern Tanzania.
The Chaza-1 well was drilled in 950 m (3,117 ft) water depth in block 1, 18 km (11.2 mi) offshore. The location is 200 km (124 mi) south of the previous Pweza and Chewa discoveries.
These wells are part of the initial work program for offshore blocks 1, 3, and 4. Upon completion, partner BG Group has the option to assume operatorship of all three blocks.
So far this year, a 3,200-sq km (1,235-sq mi) 3D seismic survey has been acquired over blocks 3 and 4, and a second 3D survey (1,800 sq km) is nearing completion in block 1. The partners expect to resume drilling late this year.
