ULSAN, South Korea -- BP has contracted Hyundai Heavy Industries to build an FPSO for its Quad 204 project West of Shetland. BP expects sanction for this project in May.

The FPSO will have capacity to produce 130,000 b/d of oil and 2.2 MMcm/d (77.7 MMcf/d) of gas, with storage for 1.06 MMbbl of oil. It will be 270 m. (886 ft) long and 52 m. (171 ft.) wide.

The floater should be delivered to Quad 204 early in 2015. It will replace BP’s existing Schiehallion FPSO, which has been in service since the mid-1990s.

Hyundai’s scope covers engineering, procurement and construction, with optional transportation and commissioning assistance. The FPSO will be built to comply with strict regulations concerning 17.5-m. (57-ft) swells in this part of the UK continental shelf.

The value of the contract is $1.2 billion. BP operates Quad 204 in partnership with Shell, Hess, Statoil, Murphy Oil, and OMV.
