STAVANGER, Norway -- Statoil has awarded Aibel a NOK 2.7 billion ($427.8 million) contract to build the deck for the new Gudrun production platform in the Norwegian North Sea.
Aibel, which also performed pre-engineering for this program, is due to deliver the completed deck from its yard in Haugesund in July 2013.
The contract covers engineering and construction, and potentially connection and offshore assembly and related engineering services. Aibel also has an option to perform future studies for similar platform decks.
Most of the engineering work will be performed at the company’s office in Oslo, Norway, with the majority of the construction and commissioning handle from Haugesund, with support from resource centers in Singapore and Thailand.
Gudrun, discovered in 1975, is 55 km (34 mi) from the Sleipner A complex. Statoil estimates recoverable reserves at around 127 MMboe, two-thirds being oil.
The platform will be installed in 109 m (357 ft) of water, and will be equipped for partial treatment of oil and gas, with production transported to the Sleipner A platform by pipelines. The new facility will also handle production from the Sigrun subsea satellite development.
