STAVANGER, Norway -- BP has proved further gas reserves close to the Skarv field in the Norwegian Sea.
Well 6507/5-6-S, drilled by the semisubmersibleBorgland Dolphin, found high-methane gas in the Lysing formation in Upper Cretaceous rocks in the Snadd North structure, 2 km (1.2 mi) west of Skarv. Water depth is 325 m (1,066 ft).
According to partner PGNiG Norway, the initial reserves estimate is 57-100 MMboe. The well was drilled to a TVD of 2,876 m (9,435 ft), and was terminated in the Early Cretaceous Lange formation.
PGNiG says the discovery will be developed in 2011 from the new Skarv field platform as a horizontal sidetrack of the exploration well. Skarv is due to start up in the second half of 2011.
In the meantime, theBorgland Dolphin will resume pre-drilling of Skarv’s production wells.
