SINGAPORE -- Keppel FELS has delivered the first of two semisubmersible accommodation rigs to Swedish contractor Floatel International. The Floatel Superior was completed 43 days ahead of schedule, within budget, and is ready to start operations.
The rig will sail shortly on a 14-day transit on its own propulsion to the Timor Sea, where it will perform its maiden charter contract for ConocoPhillips Australia on the Bayu Undan field.
The Floatel Superior is built to the DSS 20NS design, developed and owned by Keppel’s Deepwater Technology Group and Marine Structure Consultants. This design combines features of the established DSS semisubmersible drilling rig series with Keppel’s SSAUM 3600 accommodation semisubmersible concepts. Floatel International sees the North Sea as its primary market.
Keppel FELS adds that construction of the second accommodation semi the Floatel Reliance is progressing well, with delivery scheduled some time in the second half of 2010.
