ROME -- Oil reserves in the Ombrina Mare field offshore eastern Italy have been upgraded by independent reservoir engineers Studio Ingegneria Mineraria (SIM).
According to the field’s operator Mediterranean Oil & Gas (MOG), the review has lifted 2P Oligo-Miocene proven and probable reserves by 100% to 40 MMbbl. This is based on the results of technical studies conducted last year, including:
- Seismic re-interpretation and construction of a new depth map at the top of the Oligo-Miocene reservoir
- Detailed, regional to field-scale geological models
- A review of the reservoir parameters and thickness distribution
- Analysis of fluid parameters, pressure-volume-temperature data, production tests, and forecast well production and performance.
MOG is conducting further studies, including re-processing and inversion of the Ombrina Mare 3D seismic, to improve imaging of the oil and gas reservoirs and the accuracy of the seismic interpretation and depth. It is also pursuing formation evaluation, bio-stratigraphic and facies analysis to further its understanding of the reservoir.
Last June, Italy’s Environment Ministry issued technical approval for MOG’s development plan for the field, based around a production platform with five wells - two featuring dual-completions for oil and gas – an FPSO, and a 12-km (7.4-mi) subsea pipeline taking the field’s gas to an existing gas production plant onshore.
