ABERDEEN --Talisman Energy has discovered oil in the Godwin structure in UK North Sea block 22/17, the well testing at 7,500 b/d from a productive reservoir.
Although this appears to be a small accumulation, the company is looking to tie it into its Montrose-Arbroath production facilities. The rig has since moved on to spud another exploratory well on the Shaw prospect in block 22/22a.
Talisman's UKCS production averaged 108,000 boe/d in the first quarter, up 28% from the same period last year. This was due mainly to increased output from Tweedsmuir, where a water injection plant came on stream in March, and from Montrose-Arbroath, which had been shut down early last year.
Currently the company is drilling three development wells at Auk North in the northern North Sea, and undertaking engineering work at the Auk South redevelopment. It also expects start-up from the Affleck development, operated by Maersk, early this summer.
In the Norwegian sector, Talisman's production averaged 43,000 boe/d in the first quarter, helped by new output from wells at Brage and the Rev field. It expects first oil from its Yme redevelopment in mid-2010. The company is also preparing to test a recent discovery in Norwegian waters, but it has plugged and abandoned a well on the Canon prospect.
