OSLO -- The FPSO BW Cidade de São Vicente has left Singapore and is headed for the Tupi oil field off the coast of Brazil. The journey to Brazil is estimated to take about six weeks, according to BW Offshore. The FPSO is scheduled to begin operations in the first half of this year.

Field-operator Petrobras awarded BW Offshore the contract to supply the Tupi TLD (Teste de Longa Duracão - long duration testing) FPSO in 2008. The contract is for a firm period of 10 years, plus an option period of five years. BW Offshore converted and modified the FPSOBW Peace to meet Petrobras' specifications for this project, and renamed the vessel BW Cidade de São Vicente.

The FPSO will be installed on the Tupi field in about 2,200 m (7,218 ft) of water.
