Karmsund Maritime Service has commissioned two VS 490 CD deepwater anchor handler vessels designed by naval architects Vik & Sandvik.

OSLO, Norway --Karmsund Maritime Service has commissioned two VS 490 CD deepwater anchor handler vessels designed by naval architects Vik & Sandvik.

The 91-m x 22-m (299-ft x 72-ft) vessels will incorporate 500 metric ton (551 ton) triple Bratvaag winches, a Wartsila fuel-efficient hybrid propulsion system, and a Kongsberg dynamic positioning system. Both will able to accommodate large A-frames and offshore cranes, with accommodation for up to 60 personnel.

The hulls will be built in Poland, with Karmsund handling outfitting at its facilities in Karmoy. Total construction price is around NOK 1.24 billion ($214 million). The company now has seven offshore support vessels on order.
