ABERDEEN, UK --BP plans to invest $250 million in new gas compression facilities at its terminal in Dimlington, eastern England. The complex currently receives gas piped from the Cleeton area, Ravenspurn, and other fields in the southern North Sea.
The new equipment will reduce pipeline pressure between these fields and the terminal, allowing increased production.
BP expects to lift recoverable output from the Amethyst and West Sole fields about 30% as a result of this program. Another benefit of the changes should be a reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions at the terminal.
The new configuration at Dimlington will replace existing facilities at the unmanned Easington terminal, which currently handles supplies from the Hoton, Hyde, Newsham, and West Sole fields before transferring the gas to Dimlington. Easington will be closed down and decommissioned; Dimlington will also be made available to third parties for gas imports.
