ABERDEEN, UK -- Silverstone Energy and partners BP and ConocoPhillips have discovered gas in the Vulcan East structure in the southern UK North Sea. Well 49/21-10A intersected a 105 m (345 ft) gas column, estimated to contain between 150 and 250 bcf of gas.
Following evaluation of the Permian Rotliegendes sandstone reservoir, the partners suspended the well for possible future use in a development, which ConocoPhillips would likely operate. They believe Vulcan East is a separate accumulation from the adjacent Vulcan field.
Later this month, Silverstone plans to spud a well on the Lx prospect in nearby block 49/17, and the company is lining up further drilling targets across its acreage in 2007.
