(UK, North Sea) - Total E&P UK Plc says that the Glenelg field began production on March 28.

The field is located approximately 240 km east of Aberdeen in North Sea Block 29/4d and is operated by Total E&P UK Plc, on behalf of the co-venturers.

The Glenelg gas-condensate discovery was made in January 1999 and, in summer 2004, became the 300th field to receive development approval from the DTI.

The Glenelg reservoir is 5600 m below sea level, and is the deepest, highest-temperature and highest-pressure field developed to date in the UK North Sea.

It has been developed with a single, highly deviated well, 7.3 km in length, drilled from the Elgin wellhead platform.

With potential to produce in excess of 30,000 boe/d, the well will maintain gas production from the Elgin/Franklin facilities at their capacity rate of 15.5 MMcm/d.
