Kerr-McGee has announced first production from James, a single-well subsea tieback to its Janice A floating production platform in the UK North Sea. The field produced first oil on Nov. 11, and is generating over 8,000 b/d, in addition to the 10,000 b/d being produced at Janice in block 30/17a. James lies 3 mi southeast of Janice in the same block.
UK managing director, Terence Jupp, said the company remained committed to this area. It has earmarked $270 million for North Sea projects in 2005, including 5-10 appraisal wells. This year, Kerr-McGee has also been working on a new four-well development at its Gryphon field center, three of which are currently online; pre-development work on discoveries named Dumbarton and Affleck, with first production forecast for 2006; and drilling of six new exploration and appraisal wells.
